Quick Answer

Dermal fillers in Christchurch at Silk Clinical Aesthetics are hyaluronic acid injectables performed by registered nurses to restore volume in cheeks, chin, jawline, lips, and tear troughs. Treatment takes 30 to 60 minutes, results are immediate, and last 6 to 18 months depending on the product and area. Pricing starts from $350, with most 1ml treatments $500 to $640.

What Are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are injectable treatments that use hyaluronic acid (HA), a substance naturally found in your skin, to restore lost volume, enhance facial contours, and smooth deep lines and folds. Unlike anti-wrinkle injections that relax muscles, fillers physically add volume beneath the skin's surface.

How Do Dermal Fillers Work?

Hyaluronic acid fillers are injected beneath the skin at specific depths and locations to add volume, lift tissues, or smooth lines. Different filler consistencies are used for different areas: softer fillers for delicate areas like lips and tear troughs, medium fillers for lines and folds, and thicker fillers for structural areas like cheeks, chin, and jawline. The HA also attracts and holds water, providing hydration to the treated area.

What Can Dermal Fillers Treat?

Dermal fillers are versatile and can address cheek volume loss, chin projection and definition, jawline contouring, tear trough hollows, nasolabial folds (smile lines), marionette lines, temple hollowing, and hand rejuvenation. They are also used for lip enhancement (see our dedicated lip filler page).

What to Expect During Your Treatment

Treatment times vary from 30 to 60 minutes depending on the areas being treated. Your registered nurse will conduct a thorough facial assessment, discuss your goals, and recommend a treatment plan. Most fillers contain lidocaine (a local anaesthetic) for comfort. Results are visible immediately, though final results are best assessed after any initial swelling subsides over 1 to 2 weeks.

Results and Recovery

Results are immediate, with the treated area showing restored volume or improved contour straight away. Minor swelling and bruising are common and typically resolve within 1 to 2 weeks. Results last 6 to 18 months depending on the product used, treatment area, and individual metabolism. Touch-up treatments can maintain your results over time.

Before and after.

01Before your appointment

  • Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before treatment.
  • Avoid blood-thinning supplements for 1 to 2 weeks beforehand; tell us about prescribed blood thinners, never stop them yourself.
  • Do not book filler within 2 weeks of a special event; swelling and bruising need time to settle.
  • Tell us about dental work planned or recent, cold sore history (lip treatments can trigger them; we can advise on prevention), and any previous filler.

02On the day

  • Expect some immediate swelling; what you see when you leave is not the final result. Lips in particular swell noticeably for 24–72 hours.

03The first 48 hours

  • Avoid touching, pressing, or massaging the area unless we have specifically instructed you to.
  • No makeup over injection points for 12 to 24 hours.
  • No strenuous exercise, saunas, steam rooms, or sunbeds for 48 hours.
  • Avoid alcohol for 24 hours.
  • Sleep slightly elevated the first night if the area is swollen; it helps.

04The days after

  • Bruising can take 7–10 days to clear. Swelling settles over the first week; lips take the longest.
  • The true result is visible at about 2–4 weeks once the filler has integrated. A review can be booked then.
  • Avoid dental work for 2 weeks after treatment.

When to contact us

Contact us immediately, at any hour, if you notice: skin turning white, dusky, or blotchy purple near or beyond the treated area; increasing severe pain; skin that is cold to the touch; or any change to your vision. These can indicate a blocked blood vessel, which is rare but needs urgent attention. Clinic: 03 365 5774. If you have any vision change and cannot reach us, go to the nearest emergency department.

This page is general guidance. Your personalised aftercare, given at your appointment, always takes precedence. If you are ever unsure, call us: nothing is too small to check. 03 365 5774 · bookings@silkclinical.co.nz

Frequently asked questions

Results typically last 6 to 18 months depending on the product, treatment area, and your individual metabolism. Thicker fillers used in structural areas like cheeks and jawline tend to last longer than softer products.

Hyaluronic acid fillers have an excellent safety profile when administered by qualified practitioners. HA is a naturally occurring substance in the body and can be dissolved with an enzyme (hyaluronidase) if needed. At Silk Clinical, all filler treatments are performed by registered nurses.

When performed by an experienced injector, absolutely. Our nurses focus on restoring balance and proportion rather than creating an overfilled appearance. We take a conservative approach, and it is always possible to add more at a follow-up appointment.

Most clients return to normal activities immediately. Swelling and bruising are common, especially in the lip area, and typically resolve within 1 to 2 weeks. We provide detailed aftercare instructions to minimise side effects.

Yes. Hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved using an enzyme called hyaluronidase. This provides a safety net and also allows for corrections if needed. We offer a dissolver service at Silk Clinical.

Dermal fillers are not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or where there is an active skin infection near the treatment area. Some medical conditions and medications also affect suitability. Your nurse takes a full medical history at consultation and will tell you plainly if filler is not the right treatment for you, or not the right treatment yet.

Before and after

The kind of result we work toward.

We only publish real, consented, unedited patient imagery: same lighting and angle in both frames, timepoint stated, nothing retouched.

Our consented before-and-after gallery is currently being compiled. We would rather show you nothing than show you a stock image or a result that is not ours. If you want to see examples relevant to your concern in the meantime, ask at your consultation.

Worth knowing about

The one we most often pair with this.

The best results rarely come from a single treatment. This is the one we reach for most often alongside it, and the reason it earns its place in your plan.

The only Volnewmer in the South Island

Filler restores volume. Volnewmer maintains the skin envelope around it. We see better long-term filler outcomes in clients who pair the two, because the surrounding skin holds shape rather than stretching around new product. Skin tightening belongs in your filler plan, not after it.
