Silk began with a straightforward belief: cosmetic treatments belong in clinical hands, and the best results are the ones nobody can quite put their finger on. Shontelle founded Silk on that principle and still treats by it every day. As Lead Cosmetic Injector she oversees every treatment pathway in the clinic, from anti-wrinkle injections and dermal fillers through to the Volnewmer and Ultraformer MPT programmes Silk has brought to the South Island.
02The story
How Shontelle came
to clinical aesthetics
Shontelle is a registered nurse. Her earlier work was in diverse healthcare settings, which is where the patient-care habits that now shape her clinic were formed: take a careful history, ask what is actually bothering the person in front of you, and do not assume the loudest concern is the right one to treat first.
The move into cosmetic medicine came through that same lens. She spent several years contracting at established injectable clinics, building case volume and refining technique under colleagues she still respects. The work that interested her most was the part where a careful conversation changed the plan. She opened Silk Clinical Aesthetics to do that work on her own terms, in a clinic she owned, with the equipment and time she felt the work required.
Shontelle leads Silk's team across injectables and advanced skin treatments, and sets the clinical standard every practitioner in the clinic works to. She continues to train as techniques and technology evolve, because the industry does not stand still and neither should the person holding the needle.

Qualifications and
ongoing training
Shontelle is a New Zealand registered nurse. Cosmetic injecting in New Zealand sits inside the wider scope of registered nursing practice, prescribed by a collaborating doctor. Beyond registration, the working competency comes from device-specific training and case volume, and Shontelle treats both as ongoing rather than one-off.

- Cosmetic injectables training and ongoing professional development through industry-recognised providers in New Zealand and Australia.
- Device training on the Volnewmer monopolar RF platform, delivered with the New Zealand distribution channel for Classys Inc. devices.
- Ultraformer MPT HIFU operator training across the transducer protocols used at Silk.
- Regular attendance at New Zealand and Australian cosmetic medicine conferences, with hands-on workshops on injection technique, anatomy and complication management.
- Emergency protocol and hyaluronidase use for vascular event management, refreshed on the same cadence as the injecting workload requires.
04Philosophy
How Shontelle
approaches treatment
The starting point is the conversation, not the syringe. Most first consultations at Silk involve more talking than treating, and a meaningful number end without anyone being treated that day. Shontelle is comfortable saying not yet, or not this, or come back in six months and we will look again.
The aim is your face looking like your face on a good day. Not a version of your face that was popular five years ago, and not someone else's proportions on your bone structure. That means conservative dosing, considered placement, and a willingness to under-treat the first time so the second appointment can refine rather than correct.
When a treatment is not the right answer, Shontelle says so. If the right answer is a surgical referral, she will name it. If the right answer is good skincare and time, she will say that too. The clinic earns its reputation on what it declines as much as on what it performs.
Her treatment philosophy is restraint. Enough, precisely placed, and no more. The compliment she most likes her clients to hear is “you look great”, never “what have you had done”.
